Bahá'í Children's Classes
Although the Bahá'í Faith tells us that a glorious age of
peace is nearing, and our view of the future is very positive, we know that
it is sometimes darkest just before dawn. We are told in the Bahá'í
writings that "In a time to come, morals will degenerate to an extreme
degree," and that children must be given a spiritual education from
the earliest age. If this spiritual education is neglected then they "shall
be beset by sorrows and troubles, for human happiness is founded upon spiritual
behavior." (1)
Today in our secular schools, there are many athletic sports and other
activities in which our children can participate. Taken in moderation, these
activities, especially the athletic ones, can be very good for our children.
Sometimes however, we find that this "frenetic, materialistic, sports
obsessed culture" that we live in can "totally consume what precious
free time" we have to spend together as a family with our children.
This leaves even less precious free time for an all important spiritual
education that is so important to our children's development. As one individual
teacher put it "The souls of our children are in jeopardy in this world,"
and "The state of the world's youth testify to this." (2)
The Arlington Bahá'í community provides Bahá'í
children's classes starting with pre-K and continuing through high school
age children. Classes are currently in session, you may still enroll a child
at the school, which is located at the Tarrant County
Bahá'í Center
What do Bahá'í children's classes teach?
The 1st and 2nd graders receive an exciting program of virtues development,
based partly on the books by Linda Kavelin Popov (see The
Virtues Project)
In the higher grades the Teachings of Bahá'u'lláh form the
basis of the classes and introduce the Bahá'í Teachings and
those of other Messenger's of God.
The Writings of the Bahá'í Faith affirm that spiritual education
is at the heart of an educational process that leads to the elevation and
transformation of the human spirit. It is through the conscious effort of
loving families, combined with a systematic offering of classes based upon
the guidance that has been given to humanity by a loving God, that the spiritual
development of children can be nurtured and developed.
